Large Drawings on Paper

I built a large easel for the kids to draw on out of a hollow core door cut in half (about 3'x4'). I mounted a bar on the top so the paper would roll down and be easy for the kids to rip off their masterpiece and get in to doing another right away, while they are in the zone. Well I ended up using it more than the kids, On Sat. mornings I like to bring it in to the living room and draw whatever comes to mind. Here's a look at some of the drawings laid out on the driveway.

New Painted Oomoo

I'm painting again. It feels good to get away from the sculpture for a while . I am really enjoying the colors in this shifting from cool to warm. It's a little rough but I will find my groove

What's on your to do list today?

Heres a shot of my workspace, what was left over from last nights efforts. Lots to do! I realize I am in the process of creating a three dimensional version of my notebook drawings. All the little characters and their places of worship etc. It's looking more and more like wooville !

Casting of Temples

I worked through the weekend to have the molds ready for casting these temples today. These were roto-cast using the modified gypsum material I like using. Things are going pretty well, I have a few bubbles and nicks I need to work out. Cool thing is this stuff is real easy to sand right after you take it out of the mold. If you wait too long it's as hard as a rock. I can't wait to paint em! I'm getting tired of all these black and white photos.

A Little Woo

I started sculpting a little woo to go in the temples. I have several designs, heres a look at one. It's like it's just a pup. I never realized how difficult it is to do small sculpture . You really have to get the clay just right or you leave marks every time you touch it. I had to bake this twice just to be able to handle it to put the ears and eyes on. Casting small things (it's less than an inch high) is not easy either,  I'm getting a lot of air bubbles. I 'll get it though.

The little grey one is the original, here meeting his clone for the first time.

New Sculpture Designs

Well its taken awhile but I have completed a few models for some new DIY sculptures. These are constructed using "Sculptey" clay and are spray sealed using "Crystal Clear" to make the mold making process easier.  I will be making a flexible mold using silicon rubber . They will be hollow cast using a method of casting called "Roto Cast" . This is where you pour in the material to be cast into the mold and then rotate ( the mold not you) until the casting material has set up, there by entrapping any air bubbles in the middle (hopefully)  of the casting.

These little temples houses were inspired by a trip to "Bali" the land of a thousand temples and are intended to house the little woo character (not shown because they are in the process of being made). It seems that every where you go in Bali there is some small temple with offerings of rice and incense. The little temples keep showing up in my notebooks with the woo looking out of them and I felt I ought to bring them to life. They look pretty cool next to the computer monitor, sort of a monitor spirt house that you might want to give an offering every now and then to ensure a good clear monitor.

Floatingwoo Print

I'm working on a new print of the floatingwoo. This little guy has taken on many different looks in the past and I wont say this is the definitive one that he will remain but it is an interesting look.

A friend of mine has been saying that with all the Iconography that I have come up with around  the woo, all the creatures in his little universe, I should do my own set of Tarot cards. I think it's an interesting idea and maybe this piece is starting to lean in that direction. We'll see. Here's a look. Chris

New Prints Coming Up!

I had a few inquiries on where one might get prints of the drawings from my notebooks, like the ones I did for the videos I posted on "Youtube", you can see those here...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0m4dJV5tYCA  . So I've been working on putting color to my drawings in photoshop and having fun doing it. Here's a look. I plan to list them on my Etsy shop soon. Chris
